Lack of entries for Big M's card on May 13, 2011.

Many people are capping on the horsemen for not entering enough horses for the card on May 13th at the Big M. I disagree with all those negative comments.

See: http://www.harnessracing.com/news/luchentopleadswithindustrytoenterhorses.html

Horsemen are independent contractors responsible for their own business. If they choose not to drop in the box at the Big M, it is a business decision. The Big M can not compete with the tracks that offer slots/table games. The horsemen owe the Big M and the state of New Jersey nothing as it is their risk of capital and labor that is put on the line every day.

I do not fault them for the demise of the sport; but rather fault the state authorities that regulate it and received billions in tax revenues over the years but today will do nothing to change the law to permit the track to compete on a level playing field.

Goes back to the passage in the movie "Field of Dreams"..'Build it and they will come.' If New Jersey permitted slots/table games to be added to the Big M, the horsemen will come. You have to lay the blame where it belongs, the state of New Jersey itself We do live in a free market society for the most part. Horsemen are free to race whereever and whenever they choose.
